So I decided to use the DTG printer at the Erlanger branch to create a new tote with our own design! I started by making a design on the free online design tool called Canva. It allowed to me to upload my own designs and use some of the fun free things built into Canva.

The DTG printer allowed me to quickly and easily apply my image to the side of my tote bag. I was really happy with how it came out so I went back to Canva and created 3 more designs to cover all four sides! These totes would make excellent gifts for any avid beach goer or anyone who likes to visit the local pool. Even during the colder months when you can't visit your favorite swimming hole they make excellent bags for board games, books or groceries!

Be sure to schedule an appointment for training and time on the machine if you'd like to make a tote or shirt. kentonlibrary.org/stream

Upping Your Tabletop Game with STREAM https://www.kentonlibrary.org/blogs/post/upping-your-tabletop-game-with-stream/ Tue, 18 Apr 2023 14:24:27 +0000 https://www.kentonlibrary.org/?p=19350 Recently a friend got me started onto a new hobby: Star Wars Legion. It's a tabletop miniature game where you can use your pieces to reenact famous battles from the Star Wars universe with other players or even create your own scenarios! The game is super fun but the available Star Wars specific terrain available to purchase is rather pricey and there aren't many options. So I turned to the 3D printers in the STREAM Center. Luckily with the two types of printers I was able to handle small detailed pieces (crates and barrels) and even large modular systems that can be built in multiple different configurations with magnets! No force powers required to hold these pieces together.

There is a huge supportive community of makers that design terrain for this game so there is no shortage of custom built pieces you can download from sites like Thingiverse or Cults3d. I can also use the large format printer in the STREAM Center to print maps and patterns for my encounters. This way I can make my encounter fully customizable to any planet or environment I would like it to take place in.

This process isn't exclusive to Star Wars Legion either. If you play Warhammer, D&D, Pathfinder, Battletech, or any other miniature based game you can always spice up your table with cool custom pieces from the STREAM Center.

3D Print Missing Games Pieces in STREAM https://www.kentonlibrary.org/blogs/post/3d-print-missing-games-pieces-in-stream/ Mon, 18 Apr 2022 12:06:19 +0000 https://www.kentonlibrary.org/?p=10292 Recently I've been going through a lot of our old board games and discovering that we're missing a lot of little pieces. At first I was just going to leave the games as is or sub out other small parts as the missing pieces. However, after I got to thinking about it I realized I could 3D print replacements! Thingiverse.com has all sorts of models for popular games that can be downloaded and brought into the STREAM Center to 3D print. Now I can have all the pieces I need for my board games, and have a cool story to tell!
